　　DrCraigMorris，wholedthestudy，explaineditintermsofbiology：
　　“Putsimply，womenareevolvedtoinvestfarmoreinarelationshipthanaman。
　　Abriefromanticencountercouldleadtoninemonthsofpregnancyfollowedbymanyyearsoflactationforanancestralwoman，whilethemanmayhave‘leftthescene’literallyminutesaftertheencounter，withnofurtherbiologicalinvestment。
　　Itisthis‘risk’ofhigherbiologicalinvestmentthat，overevolutionarytime，hasmadewomenchoosieraboutselectingahighqualitymate。
　　Hence，thelossofarelationshipwithahighqualitymate‘hurts’moreforawoman。”
　　Thisevolutionaryexplanationcanalsobeappliedtomen，DrMorrissaid：
　　“Themanwilllikelyfeelthelossdeeplyandforaverylongperiodoftimeasit‘sinksin’thathemust‘startcompeting’alloveragaintoreplacewhathehaslostorworsestill，cometotherealizationthatthelossisirreplaceable。”
　　Peopleexperienceanaverageofthreebreakupsbytheir30s。
　　Atleastoneofthesewillusuallyaffectpeoplestrongly。
　　DrMorrissaid：
　　“Peoplelosejobs，studentswithdrawfromclasses，andindividualscaninitiateextremelyselfdestructivebehaviorpatternsfollowingabreakup。
　　WithbetterunderstandingofthisemotionalandphysicalresponsetoabreakupPostRelationshipGriefwecanperhapsdevelopawaytomitigateitseffectsinalreadyhighriskindividuals。”
